Self Assessment

It’s common to feel uncertain about your writing skills, especially when you are working on a new type of essay or stepping outside of your comfort zone. However, it’s important to remember that writing is a skill that can be developed and improved over time. 

Developing  strategies for reading, drafting, revising, and editing by providing me with an opportunity to practice these skills in a real-world setting. In order to complete the assignment, I first had to read and understand the prompt, which required me to carefully consider the topic and the specific requirements of the task. This helped me develop my reading comprehension skills and my ability to identify key information in a text. Once I had a good understanding of the prompt, I began drafting my response. This involved brainstorming ideas, organizing my thoughts, and creating an outline to guide my writing. This helped me develop my drafting skills, including my ability to generate ideas and structure my writing in a clear and logical way. I first had to read and comprehend the assignment question, which required me to carefully evaluate the subject and the precise conditions of the work. I was able to better understand what I was reading and learn how to spot important details in a text as a result. After thoroughly comprehending the prompt, I started composing my response.

In order to write effectively, I had to organize my thoughts, brainstorm concepts, and draft an outline. This assisted me in developing my drafting abilities, particularly my capacity to come up with concepts and organize my work. Analyzing other writing a from a variety of genres and rhetorical situations also helped me in my process of writing. These procedures will enable you to examine and evaluate a range of genres and rhetorical contexts in both your own writing and those of others. 

Learning how to become familiar with the database. As this is new to me, it is quite confusing. I think this was used as a learning aspect. Very important one that I used was JSTOR. These websites make it possible to search a wide range of  sources, such as journals and articles. It was good to have a website like this because you were able to see that it was credible and reliable within my essays. Engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes was something that I was able to use after attending the writing center and seeing their inputs. Also having peer review and asking classmates for opinions definitely helped.

 Overall getting involved in both of these activities, I received positive and negative criticism. I was able to see a new perspective of writing that wasn’t mine, and I was able to take in knowledge from others. I was glad that I was able to go into it with an open mind.
